The George takes food providence very seriously and prides itself on its high quality locally sourced seasonal menu. Also on offer is a selection of traditional roasts for Sunday lunch. In our well-kept cellar we include a wide range of quality wines and local real ales and English craft beers & artisan lagers.

The George is a quintessentially English Pub that serves good honest food. With its breathtaking setting on the South Downs national park, it is a sanctuary for peace and tranquillity: somewhere to indulge yourself in an unspoilt environment. At The George, everything we do echo’s our passion and our desire to share them: our aspiration to create an “experience” which is both truly satisfying and distinctively English.
The George has been a public house for over 190 years and is first shown on the Tithe Map from 1840. Nestled into the rolling hills of the Sussex South Downs National Park The George is just off the beaten track in the small village of Eartham, perfectly situated just 6 miles from the bustling city of Chichester, 3 miles from Goodwood and within 10 miles of Petworth, Midhurst and Arundel. A traditional English pub, it provides a comfortable and welcoming place to visit whatever the season. There are three open fires for those cool autumn and winter evenings and a pretty garden to sit out in on bright summer days. There is a selection of good walks and cycle routes in this area including Eartham woods, The South Downs Way and a particularly interesting section of Stane Street (56 mile long Roman Road connecting Chichester to London) located an easy 1/2 mile walk from the pub. The George is a privately family owned Freehouse and your hosts the Thompson family offer a warm welcome to all. We are proud to offer good honest British food with a seasonal menu taking advantage of locally sourced ingredients plus a selection of traditional roasts for your Sunday Lunch. We have daily specials allowing us to have some fun and be creative with food. Whether you want a full meal or only a light bite, your food is freshly prepared to order. In our well kept cellar we include a wide selection of Wines from around the World including local wine by the glass. Our Craft Bar has a large choice of Real Ales & Craft Draft Beers sourced from local & UK quality breweries. We also stock English Lagers and bottled Beers.

The Owners/landlords of The George Eartham have been working tirelessly to bring some overdue love back into this beautiful old pub and have spent the last 8 years rebuilding a previously marred reputation by simply delivering consistently great food, beer and service consequently regaining customer confidence and achieving excellent reviews over multi platforms. The time was now right to inject some TLC back into this delightful 180 year old pub with a Beautiful and charming refurbishment of the Restaurant, Ladies Toilets, Kitchen and Bar area. The George is now a warm and welcoming destination country pub with a excellent new Kitchen and Cellar that you will want to dine in with its gorgeous new decor, friendly team and award winning kitchen - a combination for an exceptional dining experience with friends and family.
